Global Charities – Lazare (France)

Europlacer is proud to contribute to the development of the Lazare association, which runs and develops shared accommodation between young working people and people who were homeless.

Lazare has been in existence since 2011 and is a not-for-profit organisation. The flats house 6 to 10 people (half young workers, half former homeless).

The association is present in France in Nantes, Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Lille, Angers, Vaumoise, Valence, as well as in Madrid (Spain) and Brussels (Belgium). Other development projects are underway in France and also in the United Kingdom, Mexico and Switzerland.

The association was born in France where more than 140,000 people live on the streets today. Lazare offers an innovative solution to house them and help them to get back on their feet by finding a social network, while at the same time giving them a sense of responsibility (everyone contributes to the costs).

Young working people and former homeless people choose to live together, in simplicity, day after day.

The results after 10 years are very positive: 95% of the housemates say they are happy or very happy to live at Lazare, 85% of the housemates who were homeless leave Lazare for stable housing, 40% of the homeless find work
