Join a Global Leader in SMT and Automation Technology

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Customer Support Engineer to join our UK team. This exciting role offers the opportunity to work with Europlacer’s advanced SMT equipment, as well as a range of high-end capital equipment, both within the UK and internationally.
The Role
We are looking for a technically minded and customer-focused engineer with strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of electro-mechanical and electronic systems, be comfortable interpreting circuit diagrams and technical documentation, and possess strong computer literacy skills. Experience using fault-finding and diagnostic equipment is essential.
Previous experience within the SMT industry, particularly supporting Pick & Place equipment, would be advantageous. However, candidates with experience in automation, robotics, servo and linear motion systems, machine vision technology, or other advanced manufacturing equipment are also encouraged to apply.

As our equipment operates within many 24/7 manufacturing facilities worldwide, this role requires a high level of self-motivation, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring maximum customer uptime and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Install, validate, commission, and configure equipment at customer sites.
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, servicing, and repairs on customer equipment.
- Provide high-level technical support to customers both remotely and on-site.
- Deliver operator and maintenance training to customer personnel.
- Assist with trade shows, demonstrations, and customer events.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Field Applications, Customer Support, Product Management, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing.
- Manage service calls and technical issues professionally and efficiently through to resolution.
- Complete service reports, technical documentation, and administrative paperwork accurately and on time.
- Build strong customer relationships and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Identify and implement corrective actions where required.
- Participate in ongoing technical training and continuous professional development programmes covering Europlacer products and associated technologies.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Strong electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience using diagnostic and fault-finding equipment.
- Good computer literacy and familiarity with Windows-based systems.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK 60%-75% of the time and occasionally internationally.
Desirable
- Experience within the SMT or electronics manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of Pick & Place equipment, reflow ovens, AOI, SPI, or related SMT processes.
- Experience with automation, robotics, servo drives, linear motion systems, or machine vision technology.
- HNC/HND, apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Previous customer support or field service experience.

Role:
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Assembly Operative to join our growing manufacturing team. Working within a modern SMT environment, you will play a key role in assembling high-quality electronic and mechanical products that meet exacting engineering and customer standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, thrives in a fast-paced production setting, and takes pride in delivering precision and quality.
This is a full-time, permanent role working over 39 hours a week, 0700 to 1500 hours, Monday to Thursday, finishing at 1300 hours on a Friday.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble looms, cables and wiring harnesses in accordance with engineering drawings, and work instructions.
- Interpret loom drawings, schedules, and Bill of Materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate assembly.
- Identify and report defects, non-conformances, or process issues in line with quality procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area in line with ESD and health & safety standards.
- Ensure all work is completed within specified production timescales and targets.
- Follow company procedures for traceability, documentation, and process control.
- Support continuous improvement activities to enhance quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
- Soldering and termination of wires and cables into D type connectors
- Undertake tasks requiring sustained concentration, including working in seated or standing positions for extended periods, in accordance with role and workstation requirements.
Qualifications and Experience:
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above preferred).
Previous training or certification in SMT processes and PCB assembly is beneficial but not essential.

Qualifications and Experience
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively throughout the United States (approximately 50–80% travel).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport for international travel and training.
- Strong electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency with Windows-based software and machine control systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and professional presentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work safely within manufacturing environments.
Preferred
- Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Military electronics or technical training.
- 3+ years of field service experience supporting SMT, electronics manufacturing, automation, robotics, or related capital equipment.
- Experience with SMT equipment including Pick & Place systems, Screen Printers, Reflow Ovens, AOI, SPI, or other PCB assembly equipment.
- Knowledge of PCB assembly processes and electronics manufacturing environments.
- IPC certification (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721, or equivalent) is advantageous.
- OEM field service experience supporting advanced manufacturing equipment.
Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant field service experience will be considered.
